New paper in European Sociological Review
Thrilled to share our latest open access paper published in European Sociological Review by Saïd Unger, Raphael Heiberger, and myself!
🔭What do we study? - We look at which scientists appears in the media as an increasingly important aspect of science (evaluation). - We consider cumulative advantage, reputation and gender, as possible effects on whether or not someone gets mentioned in legacy media among >2000 German social science professors.
🧐 What do we find? - Having appeared previously in the media significantly increases the probability to appear in the media again - This cumulative advantage is stronger for men than for women. - Together with less mentions in the media for women this points to inequalities in media attention for women in science. - Reputation might get you into the media but it does not keep you there.
This paper incorporates multiple dimension I find important: interdisciplinary team, replication materials, linking together cool digital trace data, all to answer an important sociological question.
